Low Back and Leg Pain or Sciatica Oak Ridge TN

Some of my patients at Eckert Chiropractic in Oak Ridge TN come to me to seek relief from severe pain in their low back and leg. In medicine such pain is called sciatica. It is defined as a severe pain running from the buttock all the way down to the calf or foot. For many people, sciatica pain starts abruptly or can develop gradually, but is characterized by sharp, electric-like, shooting sensations. When I suspect sciatica, I ask a patient to move his legs and see if pain intensifies. Also with this type of pain patients have sensitive spots where pain is more intense, although it is common that pain is uniformly distributed. Pain is often accompanied by tingling and numbness in the affected area, because the sciatica nerve-the longest nerve of our body- gets damaged or irritated and disables full range of motion in the thigh, knee, calf, ankle, toes and foot.
